Alright, i'm not one for summer leagues because of the non-chalant attitude, but hey the money is good. Anways, me and my partner are calling agood game featureing the best team in the league andthe hot-headed problem team. The good team is up by about 35, late in the game there was a bit of chatter on the lane, then after the 2nd made shot, b1 goes to inbound and whips the ball violently at A1's groin. Easy call for me, Flagrant Technical foul, bye bye.B1 decides to voice his displeasure regarding my call, earns himself a 2nd T, no coaches in this league so no one to charge the foul too . League rules say clock stops on a T foul shot, butsince there were 12 secs left we shot them with straight time. Once B1 earned his 2nd T i sent him to the room as I think the Fed rule for getting DQ'd on a flagrant or 2t's is B.S. and i thought things might get really out of hand so i promptly sent himtotheroom...
Any thoughs on this one???? Tyler |

Why would you want to charge this to the coach? B1 wasn't "bench personnel" yet. Quote:

There is no adult associated with this team. It's a mens league. No Coaches, no Mangers, no nothing. Just players. My Logic, and I assume fed's logic is that if a player is misbehaving bad enough then send him to the dressing room away from the rest of the players and fans where he/she could possibly provoke more uncalled for activities. The non-calling official escorted this player to the dressing room and we never saw him again, not allowed to come out for the hand shake or anything like that. Worked like a charm.Removing ejected players in other sports has always been the way to go as well. You don't see someone get a 5 minute major for high sticking and a game misconduct and be allowed to sit in the box or at the end of the bench in a hockey game. Or if someone comes out to argue balls and strikes and the umpire throws him/her out, they must leave the park( read diamond) and goto the dressing room or parking lot. Why can't basketball be more the same?

I am way confused by your post but...
I think they sit on the bench for legal reasons, not to be different from other sports. It's supposedly negligence if we send him to the locker room and he hurts himself since there are no adults around. This goes along the same line where we cannot tell them to take earrings out, we just tell them they cannot particiapte with them on, then it is their choice to remove them. |

This league that you speak of reminds me of a recreation league here in NYC,This league is only known for officials who want to make some good money.I worked this league for a couple of years and made a decision one day to give it up. Did I miss the money? yeah,This league also placed more of a responsibility on officials. For example ofiicials kept the clock(hand held)during the games, officials had to call in the scores of your games every night(if not you could get fined)Officials had to make sure the gym was clean before leaving, at the end of the evening(soda cans, bottles, etc.)And the one thing that always bothered me,Officials never worked on there craft(mechanics etc.)and I found myself getting out of shape and the sad thing was even though the money was good, The more I worked this league the more I hated basketball!! And there was something wrong with that picture.

We use the Accumlutive "T" system. Per Season
1st T is a freebie 2nd T Gone for game,1 game suspension, $25 fine 3rd T Gone for game 2 game suspension, $25 fine 4th T Gone for game 3 game suspension, $50 fine 5th T Gone for game, gone for 1 calendar year, $50 fine must be paid or unable to ever sign up. It works wonders, but you still have a few that just don't get it!!!!! AK ref SE |

Our rec league runs a spring tournament where every T is an automatic - and immediate - $5 fine...they must pay the guy running the gym right then or leave...they also must sit the remainder of the half or 5 min. of the next half if close to end...the $ raised all goes to a charity. Works pretty well, until you see some guy pull out a huge wad of 5's and start passing them around to his teammates!
