Fred Horgan, a Past-President of IAABO, and the current Canadian representative to FIBA, has said many times that basketball officials are the real keepers of the game. That means we use our knowledge of the rules to protect the integrity of the game.

And yes we are educators. Not only is it our job to officiate the game but to educate those people who do not know the rules and mechanics of the game as well as educate people as to what basketball officiating is.

During a game is not the best time to educate people. But sometimes there are little things that we can do during a game that are educational with the context of the game.

But, we should always be educators of the game wherever we go and do.
