Like you say, it's not addressed in the book. In my area, everyone blows the whistle and stops the game when the net wraps.
Besides, I've had the net wrap to the point where it gets stuck on those little metal "thingies" that hold the net (yes, only a couple times). That would prevent the next shot from going in. Z
