Red face

According to this reporthttp://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=brawlsuspensions&prov=st&type=lgns, Ron Artest, Steven Jackson and Jermaine O'neal will all be suspended for 30 games. While Ben Wallace will only be suspended for 5 games, what a joke!
I am not saying that Ben Wallace is the real problem here, because he is not. He may have given the shove to Ron Artest which may have began this brawl, but let's place the blame where it really should go. As long as some people don't know how to drink responsibly this thing will happen again. I sure don't know how much a cup of beer goes for know at arena's but I am sure they are exspensive. I doubt if I would be throwing my brew at some guy after paying alot of money for it. Alcohol will never be mentioned as the the main reason behind this fiasco, but it played a major role. When will america wake up and see that "ALCOHOL" is a drug!

Not what ESPN is reporting.

Artest gets the boot for the year, Jackson 30, O'Neil 25, and Wallace 6.

The only problem I have with it is Wallace deserved more than 6 games because he triggered the entire thing.

BZ,

Now wait a minute? Why should Wallace even get 6 games? His actions not only had nothing directly to do with the fans incident. He only had what was essentially a fight with a fellow player? Maybe his actions were the lighting rod, but I would not say he deserved 6 games as a result. Most fighting gets you suspended 1 or 2 games.

Let me use your warped logic for a second. So you are telling me the person that pissed off the driver is responsible for that driver having an accident?

That is why I said this was nothing but a PR move to make the NBA not to seem soft on the action of their players.

Peace

Well I will have to double check the tape I made of sportscenter but I think they did say alchohol was the main cause for the fans behavior. Or at least it was talked about as being A cause.

Nothing?

Nothing was thrown on the court or at players, no fans came on the court, and things had settled down when Wallace threw a towel at Artest. Artest started laughing and said something and laid back down and that is when he got hit with the beer.

Wallace started this whole mess on the court and triggered the move to the stands.

Give it up already.

The incident with Wallace is independent of the actions of the fight in the stands. Someone could have thrown beer anything. That might have happen regardless of the fight between Wallace and Artest. I am not saying he should not suspended games, but you will try to suggest I am. I am saying that 6 games seem harsh. He overacted to a foul, which in my opinion was really not a hard foul. He did throw some stuff in the direction of the Pacer bench, but remember you said it was not a gun it was only liquid when the fan threw beer. If that is OK or justified in your opinion to not react the way Artest did, why is what Wallace did so much of the lighting rod for this incident?

Peace

I'm surprised that Ben Wallace got 6 games instead of the initial 5 reported for his retaliatory shove (and the headband toss), but it does send a message that you have to be mature enough to walk away. I think six games could be a bit harsh, but seeing the NBA is really trying to make it clear that it does _not_ condone this behavior in any way, I can respect what they are trying to do.

I still feel that if Artest doesn't commit a cheap-shot foul from behind in that situation (up 15 with 45 seconds), this might not have happened. Unfortunately, I doubt Artest will learn anything from this suspension.

I also feel they should halt beer sales after the third quarter (like the baseball park does after the 7th inning). I know that might not be a popular opinion, but no good happens when people get (mostly) all-you-can drink alcohol at a sporting event.

I also don't have any sympathy for the fans who rushed the court and who now are nursing injuries. If they don't act stupid, they avoid most of the trouble.

*steps off soapbox*

Thumbs down Davis Stern Is Playing Traffic Cop!

Here is the official announcement from the NBA in regard to The pIston-Pacers Game. http://aol.nba.com/news/pacers_pistons_041121.html It's funny, because as an official I feel that the security at the Palace sucked and that the officials should have been scared for there on safety. As a former player, I have been in basketball games that turned into riots before and it's every man for himself and god for us all! Seems to me that David Stern is playing traffic cop now and he's just directing the blame else where. It's funny, how it looks like to me that the Detroit Pistons just got a little slap on the wrist. Do you think the last thing that David Stern wanted to do was hurt the Detroit Pistons chances of repeating as the NBA Champions?

Kudos to Stern. He's the best commissioner any sport has had in the past 30 years. People always talk about what spoiled brats these young millionaires are, yet when someone takes action against them for their conduct, he catche $hit.

That's just plain stupid.
