Home team has the possession arrow pointing in its direction. Just prior to the third quarter(NF game) ending, an intentional foul was called on a member of the visiting team for trying to stop a break away layup. The whistle sounded just prior to the horn sounding ending the 3rd quarter. Does the possession arrow change after the throw in starting the 4th quarter?? or does the home team get the next possession, too???

Giving the ball to a team as a result of a foul that includes possession as part of the penalty has nothing to do with the AP arrow.
If you had time left on the clock to inbound after the foul shots were administered, then inbound. If not, forget about it. Start the next quarter normally. Sometimes, a technical four occurs between quarters. Then you start the next quarter with the foul shots, give the fouled team possession (as part of the penalty) and leave the AP arrow alone. |

The 3rd quarter did not end until all free throws related to the intentional foul ended. Once the 2nd free throw ended, the 3rd quarter was officially over.
You would start the 4th quarter as normal, with the home team inbounding the ball and reversing the possession arrow after the throw-in ends (unless of course the home team violates during the throw-in). If you or your partner had called a technical foul instead of an intentional foul, then you would have started the 4th quarter with a throw-in at the division line, opposite the scorer's table, by the home team. The possession arrow would remain the same after the throw-in ends. |

If the T was after the horn, then it was part of the 4th period, and you are correct. |

The horn is NOT necessarily the end of the period.
The period is extended beyond the horn by many things: 1) An airborne shooter. 2) A shot in the air. 3) A foul (with FTs due) before (1) or (2) have ended. In (3), it remains part of the current quarter until all FTs are completed. If a new foul, personal or technical, is commited before the last due FT has ended, it continues to extended the current quarter. |
