Whether it's a try or not is irrelevant, JR. If you read the "NOTE", it doesn't distinguish whether the dunk attempt is at one's own basket or the opponents'. It just says if you carry the ball into the cylinder as part of a dunk, it's not BI.

I read the "NOTE". It says "if a player has his/her hand legally in contact with the ball....". If it's not a try, then the hand is not legally in contact with the ball, if the ball is in the cylinder, is it?

Well, it's not a "NOTE", it's an "EXCEPTION". My bad. But anyway, it reads

Quote:
if a player has his/her hand legally in contact with the ball, it is not a violation if such contact with the ball continues after it enters a basket cylinder or if in such action, the player touches the basket. Dunking or stuffing is legal and is not basket interference.
If the contact starts out as legal, then it's ok to bring the ball into the cylinder. Also,

1) the definition of "dunking" does not differentiate between one's own basket and the opponent's basket; and

2) the exception explicitly states that dunking is not BI.

So since it is possible to dunk into the opponents' basket, and the exception tells us that dunking is not BI, I'm going with count the dunk and there's no BI on the play.

Cool

As to the question of why no overtime pay:

Time expires in the 4th Quarter.

Score: A-75, B-15.

Ref goes to check & approve the scorebook.

Wait a minute! You missed 20 three point shots by B1! I remember them clearly . . . hey - that makes 75-75!

Jump ball - start the OT.

I just had a thought. I was thinking of the original situation as posted. If the kid was trying to run the clock out, and was planning to dunk it after the horn, he was outright stupid. Dunking after the final horn is dunking when the ball is dead, therefore a technical since the officials would obviously still be on the floor. What an idiotic move this kid was making!
