Fun With A Spin Move
IAABO Make The Call Video
https://storage.googleapis.com/refqu...vTTFOOnQ%3D%3D Is this a traveling violation? The player attempts to spin around a defender to attempt a try. Was this a legal move? Two choices: This is a traveling violation. This is not a traveling violation. My comment: This is a traveling violation. Ball handler Black #32 catches the ball and establishes his left foot as his pivot foot. He lifts his (left) pivot foot and returns it to the floor before releasing the ball on a try for goal.

Travel all day. Spin moves for the most part are most of the time travels.
He pivots on his left foot to stop his dribble and puts it back down. We seem to just ignore this move and often call a foul behind it on the defender. Peace

Sadly, there are too many officials that simply do not want to call them as instructed.

Weird Stuff ...
Can't is a strong word regarding my "travel competence".
I'm great, one of the best, at identifying the pivot foot at the start of a dribble, and ruling travel, or no travel, accordingly. Identifying the pivot foot and ruling travel, or no travel, at the end of a dribble involving a jump stop, spin move, move to the basket, Euro-step, etc., is an area of weakness for me (my most difficult calls) that I continue to work on and try to improve through rule study, video, and live observations. Am I competent? I believe so, competent, but not perfect, especially after working with guys (mostly in my subvarsity games, especially middle school games) that barely know if the basketball is stuffed, or inflated, and rule travels, or no travels, on how "weird" something looks. At least I realize that I have room to improve, and still try to identify pivot feet, and not just look for "weird" stuff.
