Doesn't look like he got that first foot down in the backcourt before possessing the ball, so it looks like a violation. It's close, though.

The BC violation is the second pass that goes from the player who had stepped into backcourt and threw a pass that was deflected by a teammate who is standing in the frontcourt. Ball lands in backcourt and is retrieved by another teammate.

That, too, but the first one sure appears close enough to get close scrutiny, as well.

Everyone that disagrees on the Facebook group makes the argument that the 3pts aren't across. First pass you could miss you get one live. The second pass is a almosrt straight from work the casebook.

I am really tired of referees who don’t know and don’t care to actually read the “3 points” rule spouting that off as a defense of their opinion on backcourt plays.

I'll admit, I quit cause I saw the first one.

Had to go back and watch it all the way through.

3 points only applies to the dribble.

Let's look at the positioning of the crew on this play. The center has the best look and the only look on this play. With all the players in the trail's primary, this would be a great time for the center to have a strong call. A lot of crews talk about having a strong "C" to make the game better and this is one of those situations where the Center should have a call on the backcourt violations(s). If it's not the first because they couldn't deem where the player's feet are when the ball is touched/possed then definitely on the second instance where the players has both feet in the frontcourt then tips the ball, the ball has frontcourt status, and then goes to backcourt status when it possed/touched by another offensive player. This would be a great crew save to have.

We get so caught up in "primary coverage areas" when really there is no one in a transition situation or we have to extend what our initial responsibility is because of the nature of angles we have. This would have been a great call for the C in this play and really the only person that should see this clearly based on the location of all the officials and the place the players are on the court. This should not have been missed and I am mainly talking about the second pass. The first pass was very close and debatable even though I think this is a BC violation because the player touched the ball with FC status and then touched the BC. But I would not hold anyone's feet to the fire on that one without better positioning like the C being tableside and it happens in front of him.

Peace

On the first one, the C is straddling the division line. He's exactly where I'd want to be in the same situation.

I was not saying that he was not where he should be, but this is still across the court from him and might be harder to determine if the foot was still in the FC when he first touched it and not in the BC.

Peace

I would think it would be easier from there than right on top of it, actually.

But that one I can understand a no-call. Benefit of doubt is "no violation." But the other one is a misunderstanding of the rules, IMO.
