ESPN top 10 3/4/20
Anyone see the top 10 today? I think it was #3 that showed A1 with a pretty nice dunk over B1...but I thought the official should have had PC. The top 10 video only showed the play once, so I may not have had a great look.
Can't find the top 10 video online anywhere to get a 2nd look at it, though...

Just because it made the top 10 doesn't mean a foul wasn't called.
I was at a game where a high school player made the top 10. It was a dunk made after play stopped while he had the ball at mid-court. (Indeed, I wasn't sure why it didn't warrant a T to do a show boat dunk that was clearly initiated after play was dead.) |

My opinion...
NFHS - The defender establishes LGP when the ball handler is at the division line. From there, he only backs up, which is allowed. Charge. NCAAM - If I'm reading 4-36-4 correctly, once initial LGP is established, he's allowed to defend that player all the way to the basket...including into the RA. Charge. |

You are correct.

That's what I was wondering too
Does the RA apply in a transition play like that? Even if it did there was no other defender around so wouldn't that make him primary and therefore mean no RA? No opinion because I never ref'd above HS, just asking.

NCAAW -- all defenders are secondary on a fast break.

On any outnumbered fast break (whether its offense or defense with the advantage), all defenders are considered secondary defenders.

Much Respect ...
Thank God the NFHS doesn't use the restricted area.
I give you college guys a lot of credit keeping this rule straight and calling it correctly in the blink of an eye. In addition to the NFHS rules that we high school officials have to watch for (which are tough enough to see by themselves in a bang bang play), you college guys have to count players (do the math), identify primary and secondary defenders, and look for a line on the court. Where are my glasses?
