Intentional foul with try in flight

A1 jumps and releases a try for goal. While the try is in flight, A1 intentionally fouls B1.

This is not a Player Control Foul, because it's not a common foul. The PC foul would cause the ball to become dead immediately. However, since it's not a PC foul, do we score the basket if it goes in the basket?

Seems unfortunate if the more egregious foul doesn't also cancel the try.

The more egregious fouls also comes with 2 free throws for the opponent, so I guess that is the trade-off.

Post rule content 12-5-1 contains the following:

3. A goal is made when a live ball enters the basket from above and remains in or passes through unless canceled by a throw-in violation or a player-control foul.

Based on this, I would say an intentional foul by an airborne shooter does not cancel a goal.

If you ever see this, let me know.

But this is basically a rare situation that if taken place it would not apply as a PC foul as you stated. The same as an offensive foul after the shot is in the air, you would also count the basket. Honestly, I think the fact that this is rare there is no need to make a special situation just to cover this specific situation. Most shooters are not in a position to commit some kind of action that would be called an intentional foul.

Peace

4.19.6B, although it doesn't specify the specific penalties.
