Case Book 4.19.3 Sit E

Is this just a badly worded case book play, or are the fouls different for the offense and defense in this situation?

*4.19.3 SITUATION E:

A1 is dribbling in the frontcourt. A3 and B4 are in the free-throw lane. (a) A3 throws B4 to the floor; (b) B4 throws A3 to the floor.

RULING: In (a), illegal and in (b), intentional foul due to excessive contact while the ball is live. (4-19-3d)

Yep.

I just laughed and crossed it out when I came across it in my review.

That long-standing error would be "Low Hanging Fruit" for the NFHS to pick, it would seem. Been there for years. And years.

That's an intentional foul any day of the week.

… and not a team control foul because an intentional foul is not a common foul and a team control foul must be a common foul.

Indeed. That is why we shoot free throws on intentional fouls committed by the offense, because intentional fouls carry their own penalty.
