First half 13:16–block/charge play with a double whistle

I couldn’t help but notice that following the free throws, the C chopped the clock on the throw-in.

12:17–elbow play that went to the monitor. In some states it would be a mandatory intentional foul.

First half 12:17.
How does Higgins not have a foul on the second elbow that splits open the defender’s mouth?
Then still nothing upon review. Ugh.

I can understand how that would be missed in real time. The rule doesn’t allow them to go with a common foul at the monitor if nothing was called on the floor.

He swung BOTH elbows right in front of the defender’s face. It wasn’t a basketball move. It was just to clear space and intimidate. My opinion is that it was dangerous and deserving of a F1 once the second elbow connected. I would have an elbow swinging violation without contact.

Update: tv broadcasters just announced that the Carolina defender #15 had a tooth knocked out by the elbow and another which is loose.

This was close to a cylinder play. I think nothing should have been called either. The elbows were tucked in as asked to be used and he is allowed to swing through. He did not measure the defender or go looking to hit him. I like the review and by rule they cannot just call a foul because.

Not a basketball move? Have you never seen ball handlers move the ball side to side above their head? He didn’t seek out the defender nor swing/extend his elbows in any unnatural manner. A flagrant 1 foul on this play would have been wrong. There’s a bigger case for a cylinder foul on the defender than an F1 on the offensive player.

Tough call on the elbow. Was the elbow outside his cylinder? I think there’d be an argument for that since the cylinder is normally about shoulder width. In a high school game with no replay, I’m going at least player control.
