NBA No Timeouts Left ...

https://nba.nbcsports.com/2019/03/17...al-free-throw/

Both in the title of the article and in the text of the article it's states "tried to call a timeout". In NFHS games one either requests a timeout or one doesn't request a timeout, I would never suggest the one "tries to request a timeout" in a NFHS game.

Is it different in the NBA? Does the offending team get a penalty and yet not get the timeout? Or is this article poorly written?

The NBA rule book says the excessive timeout will be granted and the penalty is one free throw and possession to the other team after the timeout.

Thanks Jay R. So, as we often see, it was a poorly written article. Nobody "tried" to request a timeout, somebody actually requested and was granted a timeout.

"Other team"? Possession to the "timeout" team, or to the "free throw" team?

Thank you. Now I can live my dream and become an NBA official. Maybe I'll get an assignment in the finals this year?
