If you have moved up in your career to officiating at the college level I would strongly recommend that you become a member of NASO if only for the insurance coverage that NASO membership will give you. It will cover you for any basketball game at any level any where in the world. MTD, Sr.

I'm a NASO member and am supportive of its benefits. However, an official gets injured, it doesn't seem to do much. $50/game in lost fees is nothing even a D3 official. I'd be interested in knowing if there are any other insurers out there that have better benefits for when the official is the one who gets injured.

It's A Bargain ...
I see that this could be a financial problem for a full schedule college official that gets injured early in the season and misses his assignments for the rest of the season.
IAABO insurance offered through the Borden Perlman Insurance Agency is also limited to $50.00 per game, with a $2,000.00 maximum payout (our varsity fee is $97.17). It's still a bargain for $7.00 a year, especially the $5,000,000.00 liability insurance. The medical and dental insurance is great for those officials who may not have medical insurance. The $10,000.00 accidental death benefit is great for those officials who may not have life insurance. It will help the family pay for an unexpected funeral. Imagine I have no medical insurance or life insurance, a fight breaks out in my first game of the season, somebody believes that I'm negligent in some slight manner, while moving toward the scorer's table to report the technical fouls for the fight, I accidentally trip over my own loose shoelace and hit my head on the table, I'm hooked up to respirator in a hospital for a month, and I eventually die. Seven bucks is a bargain for my family. Note: I do not work for the Borden Perlman Insurance Agency, nor do any members of my immediate family, nor do I portray an insurance agent on television. This is not me:

This company provides insurance coverage for athletic officials. I don't know any details of the plans. Kersey in the banner is the college supervisor.
