Substitute during Bonus situation
Bonus free throw attempt by A1, ball has been bounced to the shooter. Horn sounds immediately after A1 receives the ball as B1 approaches table. Ball is then taken back from shooter because of the distraction. Question: Do you allow the sub in at this point or do you make them wait? Rule cited to justify either?

I will say that in these cases it's best to take the ball back and reset. There are many cases where "the whistle" only stops play, but there are some where you need to exercise common sense.

My rationale is that I don't want this to become a habit, especially from the home team. Technically, since the ball is now dead, the sub could be allowed in by rule.

Let the reaction of the players, or the lack thereof, determine how to proceed. If necessary, kill the play, let the sub in, and frown at the timekeeper.

There is a specific rule pertaining to the last minute of the 2nd half while the clock is stopped for a made basket.

Or for an inadvertent whistle or to correct a timing error. (NCAA-M)

Visitors ???
And what if the substitute is on the visiting team?

To change the play slightly what if the official tries to let them play on and does not get the ball from A1. But A1 gets confused and, thinking a sub is going to come in, steps into the lane still holding the ball and then bounces it back to the official.
