I have no rules reference. What I would do is stop the free throw, tell the sub to wait, then administer the free throw.

My rationale is that I don't want this to become a habit, especially from the home team. Technically, since the ball is now dead, the sub could be allowed in by rule.

Let the reaction of the players, or the lack thereof, determine how to proceed. If necessary, kill the play, let the sub in, and frown at the timekeeper.

If the FT attempt is halted and readministered, the sub may enter under NFHS rules. Anyone who wouldn't allow the sub to enter at that point is just making up their own rules!

Or we are not allowing home teams to get an unfair advantage not intended by rule. Did it last night in a college game that I know the supervisor was watching on the internet. Visiting team about the throw-in ball at the 28' line in front of the home team's bench. After I gave ball to thrower-in, home coach runs a sub to table and table hits the horn. Thrower-in stops and looks at me. I kill the play, and as I'm telling sub he can't come in, crew chief is coming from across the court to say the same thing.

I'll live with my decision; and I don't think I'll end up in hell for doing it.

There is a specific rule pertaining to the last minute of the 2nd half while the clock is stopped for a made basket.

Even though another official or a supervisor is of the opinion that handling something in a certain manner is okay that still doesn't make it correct according to the rules. It only means that your personal opinion happens to match theirs. The problem with that path is that such agreement may not be the case for other situations. Hence, we have rules for everyone to follow.

I am quite aware of what the rule is. I've made that clear in my responses. I've also made it clear I'm not going to allow home teams an unfair advantage because of how the rule is written. And I've made it quite clear that I'm willing to live whatever repercussions come from my handling of that rule.
