Forfeit ...
" ...the second time in less than a month that a high-profile squad has forfeited a game because of officiating."
I hope that this doesn't carry over into the regular season.

Is this the norm?

I'm willing to bet this is one of those pay-to-play camps (edit: AAU duh) where the camp leaders don't back the officials and only have them there to give it the appearance of a bit more legitimacy. In my experience, those camps don't enforce foul limits, technical limits, penalties, etc... Not only that, without leadership at the coaching level, the kids walk around and play like their shit don't stink. I am not sure why people officiate these. Is the money really worth it? I went to a try out camp at one of these weekends a couple years ago. It was a joke and I would never do it again. If the camp director doesn't want to enforce the rules, why would you do that game? Not much. MAYB generally doesn't attract the quality of teams that AAU does, but it's the same concept. More of a regional (midwest) version of AAU.

I worked a few games during this tourney on Friday. One of my games involved the other team in this story (the one who was winning when Bol's team walked off). They're a quality team with a couple of future D1 prospects. They're also well coached by a local high school coach with multiple state championships under his belt.
This wasn't a pay-to-play camp type situation as has been speculated. The two officials working the championship game are well respected college officials from the area. I've worked many games with both and neither are the type to shy away from addressing inappropriate behavior. I also visited with the director of officiating for the tournament and he basically said they handled the situation appropriately. Personally, if you can't figure out that running your mouth is going to get you into trouble after the first one or two T's, then it seems like the problem speaks for itself.
