WVU/Kansas Continuous Motion?

8:41 first half ESPN2. Foul called before the shot by John Higgins.

I have to admit, I don't even see a foul. GT would have been obvious if the play hadn't been blown dead.

I am not seeing a foul either. I can see why it was called, but it looks like mostly very marginal contact.

Peace

Two hands on the ball handler?

I do think that if there is a foul here, it is after the start of the act of shooting.

I could see that. This is the reason I'm not a fan of that change. It's an automatic, but in this case it cost KS a basket.

I do think if that's the call, then it happens just before he gathers the ball to begin the shooting motion.

Did I mention I hate the rule?

I do not see the two hands on the dribbler. And I am not sure he even touches him until there is a clear move to the basket and the shooter kind of twists away from him. I think the call was anticipated. I am sure he would want that one back. I know I would and I am sure we have all called that kind of play thinking we got it right but it was very marginal at best.

Peace

Fair enough.

Do you have a problem with Higgins getting this from C? Seems like it would be tough for him to see the contact from his position.

I think there is probably enough there to have 2 hands on the ball carrier or multiple touches before the shot goes up.

If that is the standard of the automatic and that is the reason for the call fine.

In terms of advantage/disadvantage I don't see enough contact to have a call at any point. So in that case GT.

It took me a while to see it due to camera angles, but as someone who's had it hammered into my head on the NCAAW side I did. The best angle of what was called is at the 0:22 and 0:28 marks of the clip when WV #11 gets a hand on KU #10's left shoulder while the BH/D is in the FT circle. That's where the foul takes place and KU #10 continues to dribble which is why the goal was waved off. The C reacted to the contact late.

The potential confusion wasn't helped when the T came in and counted the goal due to what would have been goaltending had the try been allowed.

I agree with JetMetFan that the foul is very early in the play.

There is a foul before the last dribble. B1 has his hand draped all over A1's shoulder. However the timing of the whistle does not indicate that's where Higgins saw the foul. Higgins continued to follow the play and then blew his whistle as the shot was being taken.

I still do not see the foul or a foul where the defender places his hands on the dribbler. It is almost like he is trying not to touch him at all. I see no RSBQ affected either in the movement and the shooter is trying to avoid being blocked and moves away. If it does not stand out, I would have rather passed.

Peace
