Awesome Game!

Just thought I'd share....

Last Saturday I had one of the most exciting games and finishes in recent memory. Tournament championship game in the National Trail Conference here in Illinois (Altamont vs Detrich). The game was back and forth through-out; ending with a steal with less than 6 seconds on an through in from half court (score tied). 2000 screaming fans. Being a small part of this confernces history was special indeed. Very rarely do all of the things that make officiating special happen all in one game. NTCSPORTS.org has a link to youtube where you can view a 5min video of the last 40ish seconds. Great watch.

Why in the hell should it take 5 minutes to watch the last 40 seconds?

In our state Conference Tournaments have nothing to do with post season or necessarily determine a champion. There are some going on right now that just are for the teams to play an a yearly tournament.

Everyone makes the post season in our state. They are just ranked by Sectionals (that involve 4 regional sites) and the teams not doing so well will be lower ranked of course.

Peace

Seriously guys? Timeouts, fouls, free throws, substitutions. The final 40 seconds of a game could easily last 5 minutes.

By the way, that is my close to my hometown area you reffed. I live and officiate in Tennessee now, but I played in the LIC vs. NTC ASG in 2002.

Are the teams informed who is "home" and who is "away"?

Our playoff system is set well in advance, early in the season like the first couple of weeks. We start off with the Regional sites, then the Sectionals (only 4 teams make that level who win their respective regionals). Then the Super-Sectionals which are the level before they go to the State Finals (which has 4 teams per class).

All the sites are set as I stated. Usually the bigger and better arenas are picked. A team that is hosting might not be playing at a particular Regional or Sectional site. The Super-Sectionals are usually held at a rather big high school arena or mostly at a college or professional type arena like Northern Illinois University or Chicago State. Almost all regional hosts and sectional hosts are at schools that are in those parings and if they win they will can play at their host schools, but hosting has nothing to do with being the top team. Everyone makes the playoffs theoretically and will at least play one game, but the lower the ranking in a sectional, they will play a much better team that makes it very difficult to get to the Regional Final let alone a Sectional. Regionals can have anywhere from 4 to 6 teams total for the most part. At best, the top seed in each regional can get a bye at their assigned site. And as stated before, that does not mean you host.

Peace

How about 5 minutes to play the final 3.8 seconds of a Boy's MS game?

I had that scenario last week. V is down 3 with 3.8 to play, and they have to go the entire length of the court following a baseline throw in. FYI - each team has 2 full TOs remaining. V HC takes a TO. Both teams set up, and H HC takes a TO. Both teams set up, and the V HC takes his final TO. Both teams set up, and the H HC takes his final TO. Both teams set up, and V runs a play to get their best player a shot from @ 25'. He misses. Finally, the game is over.

Whew, at least, we didn't go OT. Padgett would be proud.
