The poor guy was the catcher on the play. He sustained a ruptured biceps tendon for his efforts. Our pitcher threw his back out earlier in the game, thus couldn't make any sudden movements and try to go after it. It was a rough night on the diamond.

In the case of IFF, the rule is the same...
But for future reference, softball questions belong in the softball forum. In a great many cases, the rules are not the same between MLB and Slow-pitch softball.
