That's exactly what I was thinking! I think he knew that he had to make the call we all hate. Notice also how he bailed out of there quickly after calling the out!

The professional interpretation is that there needs to be a batter in the box to put the ball in play. PBUC 6.17.

True ... with one exception that never comes up... except for in the OP.

It was not a walk-off home run -- it was a game *tying* home run in the bottom of the 10th inning with 2 outs.
