Ok to go back?

Runners on 1st and 2nd, 2 outs. Batter hits a home run. Runner at second fails to touch third. Is it ok for him to go back to touch third after a following runner has touched it?

No. Once he touches home plate, he cannot return to touch 3rd. If he tried to return before he touched home plate, the following runner would pass him, and be declared out for passing a preceding runner. So, either way, he is out on appeal if the defense appeals. Probably best to hope the umpire didn't see the missed base.

He had not yet touched home. Coached saw him miss it and yelled for him to go back after he had rounded the base but then gave up after the following runner touched.

The coach pretty much told everyone he missed it by his reaction. Would've probably been a game-winning home run too as it was the bottom of the sixth and they were losing by 1. Even worse was it went 11 innings and was a 3+ hour game.

In that case, as long as the following runner R1 does not pass R2, it would be legal. If, R2 had touched Home, he lost his right to 3rd when R1 touched it.

R1 had already rounded 3rd, so the only way back to the base was for R2 to pass R1 on his way back to 3rd.

Not so. R2, R1 and BR could retreat, in order, and make this a legal touch.

Or if R2 came back to the bag at the same time R1 arrived but did not pass each other, or a CT1 just said. But if it was like Steve said then, Houston there is a problem.
