No. Once he touches home plate, he cannot return to touch 3rd. If he tried to return before he touched home plate, the following runner would pass him, and be declared out for passing a preceding runner. So, either way, he is out on appeal if the defense appeals. Probably best to hope the umpire didn't see the missed base.
