Question Can a person steal base while player got Strike 3 call?

Hello.. I'm new to baseball umpire and here is a question that is actually happened. This applies to HS.

R1 is on first base. BR got a strike 3 call. Can R1 steal 2nd base? is this legal?

Absolutely, positively, yes.

Why on earth would you think it wasn't?

Unless the strike out was the third out, yep. Strikes are live ball situations.

That's the only way to get a "Strike 'em out, throw 'em out" double play.

Did I read this correctly?
  • New to umpiring and baseball
  • You are umpiring High School games currently
  • May do LL for additional practice
That is backwards as most people start in LL (or the equivalent) then move up to HS ball!

So you are not familiar with basic rules and you are doing HS games?
Again.... did I read this correctly?????????????????

Maybe JV HS ball, which in SOME, areas is like LL.

I did a non-district Var. HS game 3 weeks ago that took 2-1/2 hrs for 3 innings. Player scores a HR on infield hit that should have been routine out. ??????? Coaches agreed to end because of second game following, which ended 2-1 in an 1hr-20min. (Thank God).

Newbie-ref,

You need to immediately stop doing High School games and familiarize yourself with the very basic rules of the game and move on from there. There is nothing wrong with a person that does not know the rules of baseball, this is not a personal criticism of you.

However, you are getting paid to do a job that you cannot do with even a basic level of competence.

I am not sure how you got these assignments but, I can only think of 2 scenarios: 1) an incompetent assignor 2) you were less than forthcoming with the truth about your knowledge and experience.

Joe

When I think of Hell I see fire and brimstone. This is my new vision of Hell 21/2 hours to play 3 innings. Yikes. Better you than me

If the one guy with the long metal stick strikes the ball and one of the other guys in a different colored shirt than that first guy gets that ball with the leather looking thing on his hand and the ball never touches the ground, is that called an out?
