Homeruns and H.S. bats.

That H.S. season ended last week and the only games MTD, Jr., and I have left that use NFHS rules and Jr. and Sr. ACME ball here in the Great State of Ohio. So let us look at how the banned bat list worked.

Junior and I found six bats that were on the list this year. I don't think that I have had six illegal bats in the last 15 years.

Homeruns! That is something else. I readily admit that I do not get the top games and the vast majority of my H.S. game at the FR and JV level. And I do not think that in the previous 15 years I have seen a total of 15 homeruns hit. BUT!! This year I saw over 25 homeruns hit this year inlcuding two games where there were 3 homeruns hit and one game where 4 homeruns were hit. That 4 homerun game was in the first game of a DH and the home team mercied the visiting team and had 3 homeruns in the first inning and 1 in the third inning. The home team was mercied in the second game and gave up 3 homeruns to the visitors; 7 homeruns in a DH.

Oh yeah, I was the PU for a regular season game involving the No. 1 Div. III girls' softball team in the state and they won the game with a 3-run walk off homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to mercy their opponent 10-0.

MTD, Sr.

Over the past several years 2 to 3 home runs per game seems to be the average. HS home run records have been set and had one game where one player hit 4.
Ahhhhh but the joy of summer with legion banning composite handled bats as well as composite barrel most teams here have gone to wood or bbcor. (mostly wood because of be bbcor expense)
Had a game last night 3 to 2 in eight less than 2 hours.
In another game a big fly hitter hit 4 popups to the CF who barely had to move.
In better news it looks like the entire HS year next year may be wood!!!

What are you saying? Is BBCOR not the standard next year?

BBCOR will be the standard for non-wood bats. Since the BBCOR doesn't give much of an advantage over wood and the cost of a BBCOR bat is higher than a wood bat, don't be suprised if a lot of schools go to wood next year.

Exactly BBCOR standard is for non wood, lots of these bats are now $300+. Coaches on the board here have voted to use wood for high school games, vote now goes to all members.

1. The price will come down when demand rises, producers can enjoy economies of scale, and competition increases.

2. A lot of players and coaches consider the BBCOR bats to be effectively "wood" bats. I'm looking forward to shaving 10-20 minutes off games next season.

I wouldn't look for prices to come down. $300 is pretty standard if not a little low for the cost of the more popular BESR bats. A wood bat will cost you $50 or more. With the non-wood bats and a 1 year warranty and are effectively getting 2 bats for the price. BBCOR performance is closer to wood but the sweet spot is still bigger. Length to Wt. ratio also gives BBCOR an advantage.

Since when did HS teams supply bats? Most, if not all players around here, have their own.

Yep,

in the 6A (oregon's largest schools) State Championship game the winning team hit five (5) home runs, all against the wind, in their win.

We will never see that again.

HS teams supply bats because they won't require the players to supply their own. If the player wants to he can, but he doesn't have to. So even if, as you say, "most" have their own all do not so the school supplies them.
