Did you see all the balls flying over the fence in last night’s UCLA-Mich game? I realize that NCAA uses the ASA bat standard, but these bats must be hot! Sure, these are some of the best hitters in the country, but some of those girls did not appear to be swinging very hard.

On one slo-mo replay you could see the bat come to a stop when it made contact with the ball. Thus the bat and batter absorbed some of the energy of the 64mph pitch, but the ball still made it over the fence.

Eight HR’s off two of the best pitchers in college ball. Must be that cool California air!

Especially since UM needed to get different bats from those used last year.

The bat issue in softball is as much about liability, insurance and litigation as it is about competition, inflated egos and softball.
