I get your point, but neither camera angle was from the same angle as Layne so it's an unfair comparison. I can't tell from the camera angles either, but Layne was in proper position to see the touch/miss. Was there another place he could've been to still see the touch at home plate? I don't know 4 man mechanics.

I think Layne was in the proper spot and the 2nd base umpire had the batter-runner going into 2nd.

Obviously the replay angles we have don't show squat, and would not overturn this call no matter what direction the call went.

Consider this, however... how often do you see players in MLB throw to a base to appeal a missed base? Leaving early - yes, occasionally... but missed base - dang near never. So it must have been apparent from OTHER angles as well that the base was missed - or the defense wouldn't have bothered.

Well and the simple fact that the play was appealed means that someone else saw him miss it as well. MLB is not in the habit of making appeals unless someone on the field or a dugout spy saw the miss pretty obviously.
