Depressing, isn't it? Three coaches with no self-control, think they're in the big leagues or something.

". . . He marks not that you won or lost, but how you played the game."

They should apply for Babe Ruth coaching positions in Vallejo, CA. I hear there's one opening.

The main problem with youth sports are the "adults" who accompany those youths.

I don't know if it's the MAIN problem, but it surely contributes and is high on my list.

Adults, our current society, current athletes as "role models," tv, $, emphasis on winning vs losing, etc, etc. all contribute to many of the problems we have in youth sports today.

It's my gut that these jerk coaches were NEVER repremanded in the league where they play their regular season games. Their behavior didn't "just happen" They most likely got away "Scott free" in their league.

The article doesn't say BUT the 3 jerk coaches should be suspended from coaching for a minimum of one year. If the coach "bumped the umpire" charges should have been filed.

No more Mr. nice guy. It's time to "lock-up" these coaches for a night, let them pay a hefty fine. If they assaulted an official treat the same as if a police officer were assaulted.

It's like the DWI laws. Most states are cracking down on drunk driven with severe penalties.

Same thing needs to be done concerning coaches behavior towards officials. Enough if enough.

Good post, Pete. The same problem arises with juvenile offenders who commit crimes with impunity and suddenly find themselves in adult court when they turn 18.

I can't resist commenting on the phrase Scot free. In America, a jury (generally) has to choose between "guilty" and "not guilty." In Scotland, they have long had a third choice: "not proven." (The framers of our Constitution didn't like "not proven" and eliminated it.)

So though the phrase Scot free is often used to mean "completely free," it's actually a way of saying, "He did it, but they couldn't prove it."

'Scot free' has nothing to do with Scotland or its jurisprudence. The term originates from a borrowed Scandanavian word for a kind of property tax.

Aargh... you beat me to it. If only we had the internet to verify the nonsense we say before we look a fool...

Scot free
scot-free - Wiktionary
How did the term "scott free" come about?

I hope the coach has charges filed against him. Sad, very sad.

If it's true, the coach who was "fanning the flames" should never be allowed to coach again.

Yes, you're right. Somebody informed me wrong, but I should have looked it up.

Nothing. This does not happen at all youth sports. The bad eggs get the press.

Not all coaches a like this. Tournament play--elimination game, 2 outs, tying run on third, winning on 2nd,bottom of last inning 2 strikes on batter. Check swing and I go to my partner and he bangs strike 3. We have to exit losing dugout for signature and 3 coaches thank us as they are praising their players for " Great game, good hustle, we are proud of you."

And nowhere in this universe will anybody here this story---except here.

True. And many of those adults think that this multi-million dollar career awaits their son, or at the very least, he'll get to sail into the college of his choice.

Why don't these people just buy a race horse or a show dog rather than exploit their child? It's the same thing, only they leave no human victim of their hubris and lunacy.
