appeal at first

two outs and runners on second and third. batter hits line drive down left field line. both runners score and batter is standing on second... Batter missed first base on way to second. pitcher says they are appealing and toes rubber before throwing to first. base umpire calls batter out.

question is... do the runs stay scored?

Cool

jophyal,

No, the runs are both nullified.

Because the 3rd out of the half inning was made by the Batter-Runner before safely touching 1B.

Answer is no. Also, unless time was called there is no reason for pitcher to toe the rubber. Only reason to do that is so umpire can make the ball live, so defense can make live ball appeal.

In FED, time can be called and dead ball appeal made, so no reason to toe the rubber there either.
