Necklaces?
I've looked through NFHS and couldn't find anything prohibiting Phiten necklaces (which means I just missed it). This seems to be a point of emphasis this year and removing anything from around the neck. Is this a point of emphasis this year or was it always one?

Let me add to mbyron's post:
If you weren't born with it attached to you, it is jewelry. Now go back and read mbyron's post and you will understand for the future. And, yes, that is exactly what you say to the coach when he argues about it..... if he wasn't born with it, it's jewelry!

Wait. They had to send out a note to say that a piece of jewelry was illegal? Have you gotten the "we can't use softballs during a baseball game" note yet?

I think some coaches and players were trying to pass it off as a "medical" need. The memo was released to specify: “Phiten” necklaces are NOT considered Medical.

I find it hard to believe that anyone could be confused about this issue. A medical bracelet/necklace has medical information printed on it.

How could an umpire even fall for it? If a kid told me his necklace was medical and it doesn't look like one, I'm going to make sure it is. If it's not, I won't be happy, as the kid just lied to me. |

Had the medical line tried last year. I asked for the note from doctor or chiropactor. Got the cow at a passing train stare. Asked him to take it off, player complied.
Unfortunately for the player he was wearing two or these neclaces, saw the second when he came to the plate again, the replacement player came to bat with a 1-1 count. |

The OhioHSAA got involved because the school in question was from NW Ohio and was telling the game umpires that the school had a letter, from the OhioHSAA, at the high school specifically giving the school's players permission to wear said necklaces. The only problem was that no such letter existed because the OhioHSAA had never written one. MTD, Sr.

Be careful. I was presented with a note signed by a chiropracter stating the Phiten necklace was a medical device and needed by the player. When I finished laughing, I had the young man take it off. Gullbility knows no social rank or profession, apparently. |

Google on phiten and go to the website and look at the benefits being advertised for wearing a phiten. Simply amazing. If you read it, you will see how some would see a "medical" angle to these things.
This is exactly how some politicians get elected, make more than 50% believe unbelievable claims. |

Phiten necklaces are just a fad that was created by MLB players wearing them. The only people I've seen wearing them are teenagers that are baseball players or just caught up in the fad.
If they helped, I'm sure more of every generation would be wearing them. |
