Followup on Post: Base Hit or Not?

What is the official ruling on the following. A runner is on first base, a batter hits the ball to the outfield which in not caught by the outfielder. The outfielder fields the ball and throws the ball to second base which gets the runner out coming from first. Would the batter be credited with a hit or would this situation be considers a fielder choice?

Could someone clarify why on number (3) of this rule it specifically mentions pitcher, catcher or any infielder and not outfielders?

10.05

(b) The official scorer shall not credit a base hit when a:
(1) runner is forced out by a batted ball, or would have been forced out except for a fielding error;
(2) batter apparently hits safely and a runner who is forced to advance by reason of the batter becoming a runner fails to touch the first base to which such runner is advancing and is called out on appeal. The official scorer shall charge the batter with a time at bat but no hit;
(3) pitcher, the catcher or any infielder handles a batted ball and puts out a preceding runner who is attempting to advance one base or to return to his original base, or would have put out such runner with ordinary effort except for a fielding error. The official scorer shall charge the batter with a time at bat but no hit;

And consider in the same rule 10.05

(4) the batter reaches first base safely on a fair ball that has not been touched by a fielder and that is in fair territory when the ball reaches the outfield, unless in the scorer's judgment the ball could have been handled with ordinary effort;

The rulebook contains over 237 errors.

Again the batter is credited with a fielder's choice. No base hit.

In (b) 1, the runner was forced out by a batted ball. Fielder's choice, no hit. 2, 3, and 4 not necessary in this example.

1 and 2 cover force situations. 2 is the one that covers your play.

3 covers getting a non-forced runner out.

4 is for what happens if none-of-the-above apply.

I learned to keep score from my dad. I still do it when I watch the Beavers at the old Civic Stadium (now PGE Park). The Beavers, of course, used to be in the old PCL with the Padres and are now their AAA affiliate. We just sent you some of our better guys last week.

Yes, we are really just a PCL team! Alfonzo and Blanks do show some promise!
