I once broke first the lace on one shoe, and then the other in the same sitting. Plate shoes. I began shoehorning them on at 1:35 p.m. By the time I had finished tearing both laces and re-lacing both shoes, it was 1:50 p.m. and I was supposed to be at the field. That was all the 15 minutes was about.

Try to re-lace two New Balance plate shoes in under 15 minutes and then get back to me.

Okay. I'll start the timer, then go out to the car and retrieve my NB's and spare laces. They need changing anyway.

Ready? Go.

So a NASCAR crew could change 'em out in about 14 seconds.

Nahhhh. Probably 3 minutes.

They don't come off as quickly as you'd guess. You can't just yank them from the bottom. But new ones go on quickly.

I tried to make it realistic. I walked to my car and grabbed my bag and brought it in the house and up the stairs to my office. When I was done lacing them, I put them on and tied them, put the bag back in the car and then stopped the timer.
