Many MLB umpires wouldn't make it in a HS association as a rookie because they are just s l o w! But the difference is that they made it to their position in a better body frame and now it does not matter anymore!

If you ever worked 4 man.....
You don't have to be in too good of a shape. You don't move very much at all. I found it to be kind of boring last year during HS regionals. 4 games of 4 man were 4 too many 4 me. The state check was smaller than a regular season check and I had to driver farther without mileage (crew chief kept it all - what a crock). All that prestige for half the money. My pride was worth a lot though. (tongue in cheek-Grin)

Wasn't it Jim Evans who said something like, "if I went and did an amateur game today I wouldn't be very good"?
The MLB guys are great, no doubt, but we probably shouldn't copy all their habits. |
