Scoring Question

I was having a discussion yesterday with some baseball minds and this question came up on how to score this in the book. Catcher interference on the batter as the batter is swinging. If you need more info let me know!

Thanks

Why would you record it an E-2? It seems like your punishing the batter for the catchers mistake even though you are rewarding him 1st base.

Cool

dino,

As Gramps said, the proper scoring is E2 - BUT, the batter is NOT charged with an at bat.

Unless....

The conditons are met for disregarding the CI, OR the offense elects to take the result of the play rather than the penalty. Then you just score the play as you would had the CI not occurred.

Now, did you and your "baseball mind" buddies know that you can look this fascinating stuff up YOURSELVES at:

http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/downloads/y20...ial_scorer.pdf

Should you have any more "scoring" questions, I would encourage you to take them to:

http://eteamz.active.com/baseball/bo...ex.cfm?bpage=1

There are a couple of people who post regularly there who are just NAILS when it comes to scoring rules, while most of the participants on this board find such questions annoying at best.

I'm very sorry for upsetting the almighty forum with a scoring question as I'm just a lingering reader/poster from time to time. Thanks for the interpretation on this rule. I needed to know if the batter was charged with an atbat and you answered it.

Thanks!!!!

Then that should have been included in your question.

Cool

dino,

You're welcome.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that if the runner who reached on the CI (if the penalty WAS enforced) should happen to subsequently score, it does NOT count against the "pitcher of record's" ERA - regardless of whether the "pitcher of record" was the pitcher at the time of the CI or not.

If a run scores as a result of the CI award, then...

Hmmm. I can't remember. You should be able to find it at the link I gave you earlier.
