The Carded Coach

This was priceless! I was doing a 8 - 9 year old All Star tournament. I was wearing a new shirt, which does not have my state patch sewn on. The batter squares to bunt, bunts the ball, which rebounds and hits the bat (still in hands), while the batter is still in the box. "Foul!" The defensive coach asks for time and says, "Whoa, whoa, whoa, he struck the ball twice, he's automatically out. It doesn't matter where he is!" I tried to explain the rule to him at which time he said, "Stop, I'm a carded umpire so you don't need to explain anything to me! But I guess guys like you have to learn at this level!"

I agree, PLEASE PLEASE tell us you dumped him.
I don't know what carded means, but I DO know what ejected means.
He went well beyond the leash he might have gotten up to that point in the game.

I hope to God you gave him his "card" and I hope it was "RED".

He received his going away card! I received an apology later on! Apparently a carded parent explained the rule to him!

First, as a carded ump, he should know the rule.

Second, as an ump he should know better than to treat another umpire with such disrespect.
