strange play

Fed Rules league
Runners on 1st and 3rd. Runner on 1st steals second. With runners on 2nd and 3rd the pitcher is in the stretch and comes set. The runner on second runs half way between 1st and 2nd bases trying to get the pitcher to balk. What is the proper mechanics and ruling?
Thank you

In FED ball, you do not allow the defense to make a play on the R2. You tell R2 to cease running in reverse and if he doesn't, call TIME and bang him out.

Regards

No warning necessary. You bang the runner out, regardless. This is a rules violation.

This is not a travesty of the game! If you call time and call him out, you had better be ready to eject the coach also.

This is stupidity on th offense and the defense if they let themselves get involved. By the time these boys have gotten to this level they should know how to play the game. Ignore this type of behavior and let the runner be part of a DP.

Huh,

"This is not a travesty of the game of the game!"

Charlie does your little smile mean you're being sarcastic.

The example given is the EXACT definition of "Travesty". Running the bases in reverse order is identified as the specific reason for the rule.

Of course if you're kidding with your post then I missed that humor.

Regards,

Tim,

Unless I misunderstood the OP, the runner is not running is reverse, he is trying to draw a throw. The original ruling came about because in the early years players would run the bases in reverse order as a form of protest and to show up the other team. That was when the umpires were ordered to impose that rule. What the runner is doing is stupid and bush league.

I see why charlie47 would make that statement. It appears that the rulemakers have to decided to go with ONE interpretation, rather than to allow the players on the field to decide the matter for themselves. Support exists for an umpire warning and then an out. BRD301-421, "If he persists, he is out. Above all, the umpire must not permit the defense to play on the runner." The letter of this OBR interpretation would contradict his statement.

OBR 7.08 (i) After he has acquired legal possession of a base, he runs the bases in reverse order for the purpose of confusing the defense or making a travesty of the game. The umpire shall immediately call “Time” and declare the runner out;

How can R2 running toward 1B not be running the bases in reverse?

And yet another thread sinks into the quicksand of irrelevance.
