Crazy situations that has happened!!!

Good Day All,

I have seen this happen (2) times this year, the defensive team trots on the field and a kid besides the pitcher picks up the ball and steps on the mound and pretends like hes gonna pitch but doesnt throw it. What do we have here? In the other situation a kid did throw a pitch. What do we have here?Does he become the pitcher? Please remember these kids are 9-12 year olds.

Thanks for any info

What league are you in - I do believe in LL you have a new pitcher.

In straight OBR he's thenew pitcher.
In LL he has to also throw a warm-up to be the new pitcher.

1)You have nothing but a kid playing around.

2) If he throws it I'd be asking if he was going to pitch or not.

If you are an umpire, simply don't allow them to throw a pitch to stay out of trouble with an OOO or idiot coach.

Thanks

I wouldn't see him. Period. I would never allow something like this to happen.

Kind of hard to stop them, unless you're camping on the mound between innings, interviewing whichever kid comes up there. Generally, you're no where near the mound as the gaggle of kiddos heads out to the field en masse.

I agree with the post about not noticing though.

Exactly my point, but remember this is 9-12 and as PU you are standing about 45 feet from the mound between innings so its not a problem at all to stop this kind of stuff.

Thanks
David

What are you going to say to not be OOO. "Don't do it! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO........." I'm not noticing this and if the coach comes to me I'll say that I'll keep an eye on it and then mention to the other coach in between the next inning to tell his boys to stop that.

And then next game with that same team, I'm not noticing again.

When I played LL, I caught. Line drive hits the pitcher in the foot, he hobbles around. After the play, when everyone is tending to the pitcher, Coach tells me to warm another pitcher up. Well, he wasn't specific enough, and I got the new kid on the mound and had him thrown a pitch. Turned out little Johnny was OK and came back to the mound. But somebody must have made a huge stink and turned out that kid got charged with an inning which screwed us for later in the week (and got my a$$ reemed out by my coach).

Not sure where the jurisdiction came for such a thing like this, if the kid was charged an inning it should have been on the spot and he should have had to remain as pitcher.

(only in LL...)
