Six EJ's

Sitch:
15 yr. old Babe Ruth game, runners on 1st and 2nd, 1 out.

Single to right, R2 tries to score, my partner calls him out. R1 slips rounding third, catcher throws down, I call R1 out on the tag.

3B coach (adult asst.) jumps up and down screaming "What the f**k was that?" and "You're f**king horrible!". I eject him.

On-deck batter and the manager come up to me. Manager wants to know why I ejected the coach. Asks if the coach's First Amendment rights were suspended when he walked on the field. I tell him that this conversation is done. On-deck batter says "So if I tell you that you suck, you'll throw me out?" I eject him. Manager comes back yelling that the kid was only asking me a question, I'm power mad, I'm awful, etc. I eject the manager.

Batter-runner walking by me on my way to right field says,"You f**king suck". I eject him. First base coach (a player) calls me a cheating sonofa***** in Spanish on his way to the dugout. I eject him.

As I am making notes of the uniform numbers of the last two players I've dumped, The pitcher coming out to warm up says, "Must think you're a big shot now, huh". I instruct him to warm up and mind his own business. He says, "What you gonna do, Hoss, toss me?" Which I did.

After the game, three parents apologized to me, including the parent of the first base coach and the young man himself.

Comments? Criticisms?

You did the right thing, but the whole scene is awfully depressing. What a disgrace.

Unfortunately, I am not shocked nor surprised any more at this type of behavior.

It is a general decline of graciousness and civilty of our society, in general. IMHO

Was there anybody left to coach or even play for that matter?

I think that you did what your were forced to do. Each one of them ejected themselves.

Of course there are those who will look far and wide to prove that I am incorrect in this post - right BG?

Your post was far too civilized to keep up with the usual craziness we know and love from you, ozzy. Terrible.

6 ej's and no forfeit? They must have brought a truckload of people......

The game ended with nine very quiet and compliant players, and one very reluctant scorebook keeper who has the title of assistant coach leading them.

Not a fun situation to be in, but each of the ejections seems justified and necessary.

It wasn't any fun. But, paraphrasing recent postings on ejections, I was trying to do my job properly so no other umpire has to clean up this "mess".

< sarcasm > I can't believe you had all of these ejections and didn't have the courtesy to issue any warnings first! < /sarcasm >

Obviously, Arnold did not sufficienty establish that he was "in charge" at the plate meeting.

Only 6?

I had an adult game. Dumped two guys earlier in the game for arguing balls and strikes. Got the pitcher later for saying "f you" when I called a balk on him, but the trick was the batter hit a grand slam. LOL What ensued after that was 4 guys off the bench being dumped for profanity after a bench warning. So, 7 from the same team. They were home team and down by about 17 runs in the top of the 9th, so the forfeit was no big deal really.
