Six EJ's
Sitch:
15 yr. old Babe Ruth game, runners on 1st and 2nd, 1 out. Single to right, R2 tries to score, my partner calls him out. R1 slips rounding third, catcher throws down, I call R1 out on the tag. 3B coach (adult asst.) jumps up and down screaming "What the f**k was that?" and "You're f**king horrible!". I eject him. On-deck batter and the manager come up to me. Manager wants to know why I ejected the coach. Asks if the coach's First Amendment rights were suspended when he walked on the field. I tell him that this conversation is done. On-deck batter says "So if I tell you that you suck, you'll throw me out?" I eject him. Manager comes back yelling that the kid was only asking me a question, I'm power mad, I'm awful, etc. I eject the manager. Batter-runner walking by me on my way to right field says,"You f**king suck". I eject him. First base coach (a player) calls me a cheating sonofa***** in Spanish on his way to the dugout. I eject him. As I am making notes of the uniform numbers of the last two players I've dumped, The pitcher coming out to warm up says, "Must think you're a big shot now, huh". I instruct him to warm up and mind his own business. He says, "What you gonna do, Hoss, toss me?" Which I did. After the game, three parents apologized to me, including the parent of the first base coach and the young man himself. Comments? Criticisms?

![]() I had an adult game. Dumped two guys earlier in the game for arguing balls and strikes. Got the pitcher later for saying "f you" when I called a balk on him, but the trick was the batter hit a grand slam. LOL What ensued after that was 4 guys off the bench being dumped for profanity after a bench warning. So, 7 from the same team. They were home team and down by about 17 runs in the top of the 9th, so the forfeit was no big deal really. |

On the type of ejections you describe, I usually kick them out of the park, too. In fact, in some SP leagues around here, an ejection requires that the offender leave the premises. Did you let these guys hang around?

Arnold A- the Sheriff
Nice job, you did the right thing, and I hope your local league squashes somebody over this one.
Now, in one association I used to belong to there was the Sheriff's Award competition. Some of you who know me from previous days and board know the story, so please exucse me for the repeat. But there was a system set up where you got so many points per ejection, and the winner got a beverage at certain watering holes in the area. I think the scale was like 5 points for a player, 10 points for a coach, 15 for the manager, 1 or 2 points for a fan, and there was another catagory or two (maybe for other sports). Bonus points also can be awarded. So, using the scale here, Arnold A is in the lead at this pont in the season: 3B coach (adult asst.) jumps up and down screaming "What the f**k was that?" and "You're f**king horrible!". I eject him. (that's 10 for A) On-deck batter and the manager come up to me. (That 20 more, he's up to 30) Batter-runner walking by me on my way to right field says,"You f**king suck". I eject him. First base coach (a player) calls me a cheating sonofa***** in Spanish on his way to the dugout. I eject him. (We'll count the 1B coach as a player, he's got 40, but that could be an appeal play in this case ![]() As I am making notes of the uniform numbers of the last two players I've dumped, The pitcher coming out to warm up says, "Must think you're a big shot now, huh". I instruct him to warm up and mind his own business. He says, "What you gonna do, Hoss, toss me?" Which I did. (Add 5 more, it's now 45) After the game, three parents apologized to me, including the parent of the first base coach and the young man himself. (IMO, I'd give Arnold 20 more points for all the foul language ejections and picking up the Spanish one, and 15 more points for the apologies he got) He's got 80 Anyone close to that score yet? ![]() Last edited by jkumpire; Mon May 14, 2007 at 10:30pm. |

2. How many coaches were on this team? Both the manager and assistant were dumped. if there were no coaches left, then the game should have been declared a forfeit at that point. 3. A written report of this game should have been filed with your assignor and the President of this league. 4. Good job. Hopefully, the next crew will not have as bad a game as you did. You had the guts to do what was right and not simply turn a "blind eye" and let the next crew of umpires deal with the mess. You'd be surprised how many umpires allow these types of shenanigans to go on unpunished. Pete Booth

2. One assistant was left, reluctantly taking the reins. 3. Report by phone after the game, written report delivered the following afternoon. 4. Thank you for your kind remarks, the same to all who posted. Until recent posts here, I had never considered how my handling or mis-handling of a situation could affect those umpires who follow me. I am keenly aware of it now .
