Mechanics question
I had a situation last night that I was slightly puzzled on how to cover.
-1 out, man on 2nd (BU, me, in C position) -batter hits a fly ball that is about 70 feet down the 1st base foul line high in the air -The PU is going down to cover the possible foul/fair catch/no catch Where should I go? I was unsure because the runner at 2nd looked like he was about to tag up (the current fielding team had some troubles, so it wasn't that far fetched) so I was caught thinkings where I would go under each circumstance. thanks |

Don't move, you are in good position. Get the tag up and the catch (or touch) in your field of view so you know whether the tag up was legal and if he advanced to 3b be ready for your call.

Step up and square to the ball and stay there, watch the tag up and let the ball and runner take you where you need to go.

I would get into a position open to both the ball and the runner to make your best call on the tag up since you really can't "line" it up.
I doubt he would be tagging on such a ball in the infield, so be ready to make the call on the throw back to second to try and double him up. |
