I found this quite surprising.

At our last meeting on Monday night, an umpire supply company was present, selling equipment.

Among the usual items, they had a bin with at least 10 sets of Under Armour Padded Forearm Sleeves.

They sold all but one, which was a size Small.

I was really surprised that so many guys bought them. I talked to a couple of members who purchased them, and the story was pretty much the same. Forearm hits are the most painful injury, and seem to take forever to completely heal. And they also agreed that if they were hit in the forearm once, they would inevitably get hit there again, just as it was almost healed (ditto for me on that).

I bought a set, and will only be wearing them under my long sleeve shirts or jacket. I'm not ready to wear them with a short sleeve shirt, unless I happen to be nursing an injury.

Of course it's sissy - unlike the mask, chest protector, shin guards, cup, and plate shoes.

I'm not wearing those things. No way. Coaches learn how tough of a character they're dealing with when you take one directly on the forearm, take a minute to shake it off (don't rub it), point to the pitcher and say "PLAY" without whining or asking for assistance.

I think BU56's pic of the cop in full riot gear would be appropriate about now.

I am not sure but, my opinion, that the internet may no longer be of any use for "real umpires." (tm).

Regards,
OK, for the record, the Forearm Guards were purchased during our HS association meeting.

Gee'z Tim, what's with all the hostility ?

Now your downing people you don't know anything about (the other umpires who chose to buy the guards).

I don't really know what to say to someone who is so angry in general, except, sorry to hear it. I hope you feel better soon.
