Shirt Question

If you are wearing a long-sleeved shirt (not an undershirt- your uniform is long sleeved) and you partner only has a short sleeved shirt, should you match the sleeve length of your partner or would it be acceptable for you to go out in long sleeves and your partner in short sleeves?

I know colors have to match, but wasn't sure about sleeve lengths.

Thanks

I have had guys change thier shirt to match mine but I guess it would depend on what type of game you were doing. I think that we should make every effort to match as much as we can, As it will look more professional

If you're following what MLB umps do, it doesn't matter. The plate guy often wears the long sleeved shirt, the base guys will wear jackets.

base umps should be dressed all the same. The plate umpire should never wear sleeves that are longer than the base umpires.

more of a rule of thumb than anything else. makes you look like a sissy really...

if plate ump wears long sleeves, base ump(s)should too

Orangeump states that the PU should never wear sleeves longer than the BU(s). I would change that to usually never wears longer sleeves than the BU(s). Tee's scenario trumps the norm but there is an umpire here in my AL association that wears a plate coat if it's 40 or 90 at game time. I haven't worked with him yet but you can bet if I am on the bases and it's hot I will not have a coat on. The PBUC manual, which is applicable in many areas to amateur ball, clearly gives the option of the PU to select his own uniform. That's good enough for me...

If it is cold enough for my partner on the bases to be wearing a jacket I will probably be wearing a long sleeve shirt, and it will be with our without long sleeve cold gear underneath depending on the temperature. If I am wearing a jacket on the plate I AM wearing cold gear underneath because it is damn cold and I will be wearing gloves also. It wouldn't happen that I am wearing long sleeves on the plate and my partner wearing short sleeves, not because of some fashion code but because I generally run warm behind the plate so if it is comfortable for BU to be in short sleeves I would be burning up in long sleeves.

I have seen many MLB games with PU in sleeves, short or long and all the BU's in jackets. The BU's should be dressed alike. PU should be dressed for whatever he feels comfortable in.

Unlike Tee, if it's above 70 degrees I am in short sleeves and if the PU wants to wear a plate coat more power to him.

When im PU, i ALWAYS wear a short sleeve shirt. If the weather is cold, I always wear bright red long sleeved under armour under it. If the weather is colder than that, I wear a 3/4 sleeve navy blue shirt over the red. Sometimes, on the bases, I will wear my uniform shirt under my jacket. Remember, it always looks better to have a different colored uniform shirt on under a jacket...i.e. navy blue shirt under black jacket...always classy...

Another Color, NO NO NO

If I were UIC, I would require NAVY 24-7 from t-ball to MLB. I am hoping the League UIC would NOT enter the controversy created over choosing black or navy pullover shirts and matching black, gray or navy ball bag(s). The color ballbag(s) PU wears is his choice. I was disappointed when MLB umps wore the black shirts for the very first time. No, I haven't gone out and bought a black shirt yet.

But only on one condition, nobody else may ask to wear a matching powder blue cap or matching blue ball bag(s).

Anyone ever go out on the field with a black shirt and a navy cap or ball bag?
