Breaking up the double play in MLB

Is the batter ever called out because the runner broke up the double play and they called it interference on the runner?

Sure, an illegal slide or intentional interference come immediately to mind (for MLB).

Last night Joe West got 2 outs for an illegal slide in the Angels-Royals game.

He would be the heavy set guy on the blue-gray team.

Please forgive me!!!!

I will take my 40 lashes at the plate for my lake of knowledge of the blue-gray team. Please do not ban me from the site, I am just a baseball - Coach, parent, and fan of the game.

"...for my lake of knowledge..."

Does that mean you're all wet?

As much as I like the ribbing you are receiving from my umpiring brethren, I'll help you.

OBR 6.05(m) - "A batter is out when - a preceding runner shall, in the umpire's judgement, intentionally interfere with a fielder who is attempting to catch a thrown ball or to throw a ball in an attempt to complete any play."

The objective of this rule is to penalize the offensive team for deliberate, un warranted, unsportmanlike action by the runner in leaving the baseline for the obvious purpose of crashing the pivot man on a double play, rather than trying to reach the base. Obviously, this is an umpire's judgement play.

And Joe West, lovingly referred to as "Cowboy Joe", is a rather prominent Major League umpire.( The Blue -Grey team )
