masks - color and pad preference?

Do most guys use a black frame? What's the popularity level of navy or royal? As for pads, I have doe skin and regular black Amara, and both are fine. I tried the new extended pads from Wilson, but found that when I turned my head the lower part of the pad bounced off the collar of my chest protector (WV Platinum). What are your preferences?

Over theyears, I''ve accumulated so many 'parts' of masks, I veary the mask based on which shirts we're (I'm )wearing.
Roughly,
Black Shirt- Black frame w/grey pads, black harness or black frame w/tan pads, black harness.
Navy Shirt- Navy frame w/tan pads, navy harness or royal frame w/tan pads, royal harness.
Powder shirt- Navy frame w/tan pads, navy harness or royal frame w/tan pads, royal harness or black frame w/grey pads, black harness.
Red Shirt- navy frame w/tan pads, navy harness or royal frame w/tan pads, royal harness.

I've abolished all things red, as well as the grey frame and harness (leave those for the catchers) and i don't really care for black pads.'

I have 3 masks now, black with black harness, red with black harness, and navy with navy harness. The last is my newest acquisition and I have not used it yet. All are from Honigs and all have Honigs doeskins on them.

I have 3 colors of shirts, the standard navy, powder blue with navy and white trim, and the cream. With standard navy I have been using the red mask. The navy shirt has red trim on it. With cream I wear the black, and the reason I bought the Navy was to match up well with the powder blue with navy and white trim shirt. Previously I have used the black mask with the powder shirt. The red and navy were bought on sale at Honigs.

All three are extended masks, but on the black one I have an extra throat protector and I have been using it exclusively for the last 2 weeks, since I got hit in the throat for the second time in my career 2 weeks ago. The pitch was a swinging strike three that bounced up under the catcher and must have rode up my leg and hit me in the throat under the throat protector. I was wearing the powder blue that day, and did not have the navy yet.

Blue shirts, or my navy plate coat, I use a black Honigs single bar with tan WV doeskin pads.

Red or black shirts I use a red frame with black amara pads. (The devil mask)

My son uses a royal blue WV mask. IMO, it looks great with the light blue shirts, but nothing else.

this is just my opinion, but there is no need for anything other than black or navy masks.

i just gave my navy mask to my brother since hes just starting out, so im without a navy mask at the moment. i like to wear the navy mask when wearing anything navy based, and the black one when wearng anything black based, making it simple. the royal blue and red masks dont really fit in my opinion.

I bought the Henry Ford version of the Wilson "New View" mask - I could have any color I wanted so long as it was black.

Then I matched it up with the Henry Ford version (at the time) of the Wilson wraparound pads - doeskin.

So I'm wearing doeskin pads on a black frame whether my shirt is navy, powder, cream, or black.

This season I have used a black mask, a navy mask, a red mask, a royal mask, and a grey mask.

All it comes down to is how much money do you want to blow on masks so you can be very color coordinated.

Folks are a little more liberal around here. The latest color combos for summer in my area are:

-the raspberry ice-tea mask with the taupe pads
-the starlight sea mist mask with the merlot pads
-the Lindt dark-chocolate mask with the Mojave sandrift pads
and, my personal favorite:
-the sultry cerise mask with the Robert Johnson pads

Knock 'em dead out there, and remember: there's no crying in fashion.

Hey! Do you want to sell this one to me? I've been looking all over for this exact color combo.

I was really starting to feel left out for not having masks to coordinate with my shirts. Then I read this and feel much better. Thanks, mbyron!
