Wink 2B or Not 2B?

Business as usual for PU.
Stand in the outfield with NO one ON.
2BU takes B or C position with runners on base.
1BU and 3BU ump cheat in with man on 1B or 3B, get the angle from the outside.

There's a publication written by Scott Ehert on three and four man mechanics available at Amazon, though I doubt you could get one in time. Here's a link to the American Legion Umpires Manual. It has rotations for two, three, and four man crews.

Good luck!

SAUmp,

Not business as usual for PU at all. For one, PU has no outfield catch-no catch responsbility in 4 man, and no fair/foul once the ball goes over 1st or
3rd. Like in 3 man, PU has touch/no touch responsibility at 1st in certain rotations.

The best source for umpire responsibilities in 2, 3, 4 and 6 man crews can be found in the CCA manual that you can purchase at Honigs.

I stand by business as usual for PU. The call goes to the one who gets the angle {from the outside}. PU better be on his toes or the entire crew will look, hmmm, ridiculous. The we can all blame ONE person, right. The PU just has to deflect responsibility.

We saw these responsibilities come into play during the WBC series. The name Davidson comes to mind as 1bu. Those PARTNERS didn't see the home run ball either and said so in that conference.

All eyes on ball is true. And PU should always be on their toes. I had a U3 hang an entire crew out to dry when he failed to rotate to 2b. So, its not just the PU that can make crew look ridiculous.

To just say 'business as usual' for the plate ump minimizes the differences between 2 man and mutiple crew coverages.
