Interference

2 incidents from tonight's game. I will post each separately. I didn't have a dog in the fight.

#2. Swinging bunt tight ropes up the first base foul line, remaining fair. Batter/Runner runs straight down the line toward 1b without contacting ball. F2 follows Batter/Runner up the line and retrieves ball. F2 alters his throw to avoid striking Batter/Runner in back of the head. Throw from F2 ends up in RF. FU calls Batter/Runner Out for interference. Any thoughts?

Where was the Batter when F2's throw struck the Batter in the back of his head?

#2. Normally FU, AKA BU, would not have this play. Where was or had been any one of the B-R's feet when this occurred?

In FED and NCAA this can be RLI if the B-R being out of the lane altered the throwing fielder's throw. But it is hard to see this called by the FU/BU unless he knows he's calling with a smitty.

I got the meaning. Where was the runner relative to HP and 1B.

Ball was half way up the line when fielded by F2. Call was made by FU.

We don't know where he was or if he was struck in the back of his head but thanks for asking although I already thought I asked and Mark asked although he asked where he was when he was hit in the head.

Batter/Runner was 3-4 steps ahead of ball that was fielded half way up the line.

Batter/Runner not hit in head..."F2 altered throw to avoid hitting Batter/Runner in back of head."

We still do not know where either foot of the B-R was when the throw was altered which matters only in FED and NCAA.
But strange that this was called by FU/BU unless he knew his PU did not know sheet.

If a B/R's illegal position caused the bad throw, then it's INT in FED & NCAA.

And yes, the PU normally makes this call, since he has a broader view, plus doesn't have safe-out responsibility. However, BU can make this call as well.

Coach, was the runner in the running lane or not? This is important because if he's in the lane, he cannot interfere with the throw. He is also protected at the end of the lane so he can step out and touch 1st base.

Yes, this is the PU's call because he has the best view.
