This is also my first year as a VB ref. I had my first regular season match on Monday. I survived, and I had fun in the process. I'm looking forward to my next match and beyond.

PS - I, also, do BB and SB.

Welcome to the club Lcubed 48.My scrimmage last night was so much fun.The teams were from two of our three highest divisions with one winning their division and reaching the state finals.Nothing really interesting-had an assistant coach who had difficulty staying seated, had to warn him with no card.Really good setters, didn't call a thing and they weren't even close to the line.Only ball handling call I made was a lift as a ball after it was touched off the block cradled in the covering player's elbow as she tried to dig it up.

Notes my observers gave me:
As R1-
*Stronger whistle
*Relax when going thru the signal sequence, was told I am too robotic
As R2-
*I am way too early on transition
*Go over the time-out protocols

My schedule this year-15 dates/16 Matches
2 as Jr High R1 (all Jr High matches are one person)
6 as a Varsity line judge (we have one school who requests officials as lines judges for all their home matches)
7 as a Varsity R2
1 as a JV R2
1 as a JV R1

Can't wait to get started

Thanks,

My next match was unknowingly last night. I went to observe one of my trainers to work a match, and I ended up being the scorekeeper for the varsity match which went 5 sets (15-13). Neither team had one there. There were no issues. Learning to score keep was part of the training class.

It looks as if you are receiving good advice. I've been getting the same.

I don't know my schedule that far in advance. I have 2 matches next week - both as the R2.

That's a little odd. When it is deemed that we qualify for a schedule we get a block of matches for the season which we then accept or decline. What's your assignment fee Lcubed?

I don't know what it is for VB. I'm guessing that it's in 5% - 8% range. That would be in line with BB & SB. Since this method is the only one I've worked with, I don't know any different. Actually, this method works fine for me not that I'm retired.
