Still Standing

A7 subsitutes into the game for A1. Coach A is talking to A1 and they are still standing in front of the attack line. I believe they are 6 feet from the court. They ain't moving. I whistle and signal begin serve. Violation???

I would not call one if the coach and player had not been given a verbal warning by your R2. If I read it right, they are in the sub zone? Why? what was your R2 doing to let the coach be in front of the attack line anyway?

I was going solo for this match. Thus no R2.
I did not call a violation. The point was earned fast. I then had the captain tell the player to sit and inform the Coach of being the substitution zone.

The next time you work without a second referee, you might ask the host school to move the platform to the side of the net closest the officials' table, if possible. I have always found it easier to manage substitutions and confer with assistant officials in that location. Also, if you need to speak to the coach(es) during the course of a match, you're in a position to avoid a long distance conversation.
