NCAA mechanics questions

1) When pursuit rules are in effect: team's first contact travels outside the antenna and lands out of bounds without being touched. Does R2 whistle this antenna fault?

2) When a 5 minute intermission is used after the 2nd set, does the R1 signal for the teams to return to the bench or to switch sides?

My guesses:

1) Yes

2) Release to the bench. The teams then leave and return to the opposite bench.

That's what I thought, but my much more experienced R2 disagreed.

That's what I did, but I was unsure.

1. No

From the PAVO manual:
Quote:
The ball is not considered out
of play until it contacts an object outside the court or is not
legally returned under Rule 15.1.1.1. The first referee will
whistle when the ball becomes dead
. When a team's
second or third team contact sends the ball over or outside
the antenna, whistle and signal “out” immediately.
2.
From the rulebook
Quote:
9.2.4.2.1 When an intermission is used (See Rule 8.4.2.4), the first referee
dismisses the team to their respective benches. (See Signal 31, Official’s
Mechanics.)
