Resumption of Play off Timing Error
Scenario: Team A is throwing the ball in on their own endline with 0.5 seconds remaining in the game. Player from Team A throws the ball to the opposite endline, with the pass closely going over a set of players' hands, but the ball never touches anyone. The clock operator starts the clock based on the assumption that it was touched because they're not looking at the trail official. We blow the play dead immediately before the horn goes off.
Now the question is how do we resume play and where is the ensuing throw-in? Please cite the rulebook or casebook as I'm trying to find the rule/scenario that applies to this. |

You posted this in VolleyBall -- it needs to go in Basketball.
(But, this is a throw-in violation, not an OOB violation. Treat it the same as if A couldn't inbound within 5 seconds, or stepped over the line -- put .5 back on the clock, and B gets a throw-in at the original spot. It's unclear from the rules, but I'd use one of the four spots nearest the original throw-in.) |
